GFX: What is Cyclical Corrosion?
GFX: Product Manager, Fleet Manufacturing Sherwin-Williams Automotive Finishes Dan Szczepanik
Dan Szczepanik:
We're here at the Sherwin-Williams Automotive Finishes test facility. This is one of the many labs that we have where we can test our coatings. We can test for UV exposure, humidity, gravel and corrosion. So, not only can we test the traditional way which is the B117 salt fog. We also test a more real world way cyclical corrosion. That's where we can take a panel, scribe it and have it undergo testing and conditions you'll see in the real world. Everything from UV to humidity, to dark to dry, to salty conditions. The panel will cycled through there multiple times until we start to see corrosion. This test is a 70 percent correlation of real world as opposed to the old way B117 which has very minimal correlation. That makes us confident that the products we're developing are going to perform for you.
