Care Ultra - Solvent-Based Acid-Catalyst
New 2k Acid-Catalyst products with ultra-low formaldehyde emissions
The EMEAI interior wood markets are required to reduce formaldehyde emissions according to the new EU regulations. As a result, the current Acid-Catalyst products that emit this substance must be replaced by mid-2026.
Sherwin-Williams is proud to introduce a new solvent-based range called Care Ultra. Care Ultra will be replacing the current AC offering. The range includes clear and pigmented solvent-borne 2k AC systems with both FA-free formulations and ultra-low emission solutions.

Compliance and performance
The Care Ultra range is designed to easily meet the new restrictions, so upgrading to this new acid-catalyst range will enable you to continue using this well-known and robust technology. The performance process is the same in terms of reactivity, drying time and pot life as our old range of Acid-Catalyst products. They will allow you to have the same productivity and to use the same equipment as before, without any need for additional investments.
The performances of the new Care Ultra products remain unchanged, and they offer the same or even better chemical resistance than the old Acid-Catalyst range on the same type of surfaces.
The new regulations are based on the ECHA REACH “Restriction on Formaldehyde Release from Articles” and were approved on 13th February 2023. This will become law after a period of transition by mid-2026. The maximum exposure limit for furniture finished goods will be 0.062mg/m3, which must be measured in accordance with EN717-1 Methods. (The current limit is compliant with E1 certification, which is 0.124mg/m3.).
