In my 28 years of protective coatings experience, I've been actively involved in the industry as a professor of polymer science, and a NACE-certified inspector. I am also a member of multiple international specification writing committees such as CSA, ASTM, NACE, ISO, and API. GFX: Harsher Drilling Environments The advances in drilling and extraction technology have made it possible to extract oil from deeper and harsher drilling environments. Our customers' challenge is to meet the rigors of these conditions while also moving energy safely efficiently and cost effectively. GFX: Multi-layer Approach In response, Sherwin-Williams has developed a multi-layered approach to coating pipes that focuses on prevention protection and preservation. The first coating layer prevents the steel pipes from corroding the second layer protects the anti corrosion coating from damage. The first two layers are commonly fusion-bonded epoxy coating technologies. Finally the top coat preserves the two layers against ultraviolet degradation. This third layer could be a plant-applied fusion bonded polyester or field-applied water-based acrylic coating that blocks UV light waves from reaching the layers below.
