Fueling Efficiency to Achieve 300% Projected Productivity Gain
Efficiency is critical to maximizing production on the finishing line, yet many manufacturers don’t realize how much opportunity they have to improve. One work truck manufacturer reached out to Sherwin-Williams for help. The company needed to increase capacity to fulfill a new contract. At the time, limitations of the company’s paint process only allowed them to finish one unit per shift. Sherwin-Williams brought in a team of experts to audit their paint line and uncovered several opportunities to improve efficiency and profitability, including eliminating unnecessary steps in their process, switching to an easy-to-apply polyurethane paint system and streamlining masking.
These changes, along with comprehensive training and support from Sherwin-Williams local Technical Service teams, transformed the company’s finishing line to a more linear process, significantly reducing total finishing time per unit and lower finishing cost per unit to a quarter of the customer’s previous spend. Now, the customer has the potential to produce up to four units per shift, which could increase profit by more than $600,000 per month.
Anyone can claim to have the best products in the industry, but great products are just the start. Driving a real impact requires a partnership – a deep understanding of the customers’ operations and a shared commitment to continuous improvement. By going beyond the traditional supplier relationship, we’re able to transform our customers’ finishing lines, eliminating bottlenecks and creating efficiencies that result in significant savings. It’s a win-win for the OEM, as well as Sherwin-Williams.
