  In a corrosion comparison test, Valspar Aquaguard waterborne coatings were compared to traditional zinc based coatings. The results showed that Valspar Aquaguard coatings reduced corrosion by 60 percent. And provided far better protection to the metal substrate than the zinc based coating. Much like the chemical reaction that produces fire, corrosion requires the presence of three different elements to take place. Eliminating any one of these elements, fuel, oxygen, or heat, will prevent a fire from igniting. Likewise eliminating any one of these elements, water, oxygen or ionized particles, will prevent corrosion from taking place on a metal surface. Zinc based coatings only reduce the presence of ionized particles. But the gradual degradation of the zinc actually damages the surface it was intended to protect. Valspar Aquaguard coatings stop corrosion by preventing water and oxygen from reaching the bare metal surface. By preventing the occurrence and spread of corrosion, Valspar Aquaguard coatings preserve the integrity and lengthen the life of the metal surfaces they protect.
