Bill Allen:
Good morning, my name's Bill Allen and I'm the director of manufacturing for Showplace Wood Products located in Harrisburg, South Dakota. We employ about 500 people in this facility, manufacture between 500 and 600 cabinets a day here. I'm here today to talk to you about Showplace's partnership with Sherwin-Williams in implementing and introducing the new Sher-Wood SB Stain Systems.
Probably the most difficult color we had was a brown stain on maple called pecan and we were having difficulties hitting those colors with our former supplier. The original stain bases we were using were formulated based on our old sanding procedures.
Sherwin-Williams worked with our product managers to implement and improve the sanding process' to be a more consistent product coming out of the end of the sander.
In the month prior to the SB system we had found that we had rejected about 43 pieces
So what we did was we reformulated that using the SB systems and the new sanding procedures and in the month following the change to SB we experienced only one pecan piece that was defective.
So the dramatic improvement from 43 pieces to 1 piece was an indication to me that we were onto something with the SB stains and we immediately see more profits for our company and our employees. Fairly rapidly we moved all of our stains and our clears to Sherwin-Williams and today, they are our only finish supplier.

The kitchen behind me is a cherry kitchen stained in autumn with the Shed-Wood SB Stain Systems. You can see the color consistency we're looking for in this color kitchen. We achieved that with the SB stain systems.
We're employee owned. Our employees take pride in their product and we work very hard at pleasing the customer. Often times at showplace you hear the question, would you put this in your kitchen? And if there's any doubt in that, the product doesn't go in the kitchen.
The best cabinet, the best joinery, the best profiling, the best sanding, can be ruined in the finish room in a matter of minutes.
