Simple Formulas for Calculating Square Footage

Simply calculate the formula for each shape to determine the total square footage.

Rectangle or Square

Multiply the Length by the Width (or height for walls). L x W

Triangle

Multiply the Height by the Width and divide the total by 2. (H x W) / 2

Circle

Multiply the diameter (distance across) by itself and then multiply this total by 0.7863. (d x d) x 0.7863

Lineal inches to square feet (for cove base)

• 4 inch cove: measure the total length of the cove in feet. Multiply the lineal feet by 0.333.
• 6 inch cove: measure the total length of the cove in feet. Multiply the lineal feet by 0.500.
• 8 inch cove: measure the total length of the cove in feet. Multiply the lineal feet by 0.666.
