Transforming this 25 year old facility into a state of the art, sports and entertainment complex was no small task. And with 200 plus events taking place here every year, the renovated structure needed tough floors that could withstand the traffic of over 2 million annual visitors. Sherwin-Williams was up to the challenge, delivering over 120,000 square feet of durable, stylish Terrazzo flooring. Installing Terrazzo was a multi-step process, requiring great skill and patience. The first steps included shot blasting the concrete substrate, laying a mortar bed, then adding moisture mitigation coatings and crack isolation membranes to ensure a durable final finish. Applicators must trowel the material by hand and smooth it carefully to ensure even coverage before sealing and polishing it as a final step. The application team installed a new flooring in phases in the arena concourses and the stunning new glass enclosed atrium. More than a year and seventy five hundred gallons of Terrazzo later, the Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse transformation was complete just in time for the Cavaliers' season opener in October 2019. Working hand in hand, Sherwin-Williams, a labor team and Roman Mosaic created this high performing an aesthetically appealing floor to help enhance the fan experience at one of the world's top arenas. For generations to come, the Sherwin-Williams Terrazzo flooring will carry the footsteps of millions of guests excited to visit this landmark Cleveland destination.
