FasTop™ Flooring Maintenance Recommendations

Sherwin-Williams FasTop systems provide a seamless, chemical resistant, monolithic surface. Depending upon the finish texture, maintenance recommendations will vary.

Environments with high levels of moisture and surface contaminants will require aggressive slip resistant finishes. Standard industrial and kitchen environments may be finished with a less aggressive texture. Cleaning procedures will vary based upon the degree of texture.

HIGHLY TEXTURED FASTOP SYSTEMS

The profile required to provide slip resistance in wet conditions prohibits the use of mops or pads to clean the textured surface. These surfaces require the use of a bristled brush or a bristle attachment on a power scrubber in conjunction with a mild detergent such as an all-purpose cleaner. Power spraying is also an effective method. A cleaner/degreaser can be used along with these methods to facilitate cleaning.

STANDARD TROWELED AND LOW TEXTURE FASTOP SYSTEMS

Floors should be cleaned daily. In dry conditions, sweep daily, and use treated mop cloths to pick up fine abrasive dirt. In wet conditions, mops or squeegees can be used to remove dirt. As floors become soiled, they should be scrubbed with a detergent solution such as an all-purpose cleaner and properly rinsed. FasTop systems are designed to facilitate wash downs and spill removal. Standard procedures dictate that the surface be cleaned or flushed as soon as possible after exposure to chemical spills. If absorbent material is used on spills, it is best to remove and dispose of the waste at the first opportunity. If possible, either flushing or neutralizing is recommended at this point.

PERIODIC MAINTENANCE

  • Damp mop smooth/low texture surfaces with an all-purpose cleaner.
  • Scrubbing is required with a skid-inhibiting surface or when a smooth surface becomes very soiled. Use a bristle brush or a bristle attachment on a power scrubber (not a nylon pad) using a detergent solution to dislodge the dirt. The type of detergent will depend on the degree and type of build-up on the floor surface. Use an all-purpose cleaner for areas exposed to light traffic dirt. Extremely heavy-duty soils, oil, grease and rubber marks, etc. may be removed using a cleaner/degreaser to remove tire marks and other tough stains.
  • After scrubbing, the floor should be rinsed and vacuumed to prevent the dirt from resettling on the floor.

FasTop systems are resistant to abrasive wear and chemical attack. The rate and degree of wear are dependent upon traffic and use conditions. Regular inspections should be performed throughout the life of the flooring system to determine that no damage has occurred. If damage has occurred, immediately consult with a Sherwin-Williams flooring expert to prevent further damage. Severe damage should be repaired as needed. Periodic recoating will extend the life of the flooring system and renew the desired surface texture.
