GFX: Sherwin-Williams Genesis LV Sign of a Quality Finish
GFX: Daryl Mowry Universal Sign Systems Production Manager
Daryl Mowry:
One of the bigger challenges that we have making signs with architectural structure and creativity is the customers always ask for it with a very short timeline. So we need to turn it around at a fast pace. Engineer it, design it and put it together. And paint it, ship it, or install it in a very short time frame. One of the solutions to finding a way to get the signs done fast, moving quickly and with good quality is in the paint job and in the graphics. Both kind of contradict each other. If the paint isn't dry you can't apply graphics so you need the paint to dry fast so that you can get to the graphics part.
What we found is the product with GENESIS and Sherwin-Williams we are able to cut down our bake times and our curing times so that we can get to the next step which is the final step of graphics and the final part that makes the sign really pop. With GENESIS, we're doing that quickly.
GFX: Walt Szczesny Sherwin-Williams
Walt Szczesny:
When we brought color information to Universal Sign, of what we are doing with our color retrieval using our FormulaExpress 2.0, they can enter any color information and that way they will have information to mix right here on the spot for what they need.
Daryl Mowry:
When Walt came to me about retrieving colors at a faster pace, I was all for it. The original process, we have a spectrometer where we can shoot colors and do it in house. But the gamut wasn't there for a lot of architectural colors that are picked today. The brighter more vibrant colors.
So when Walt came to me with this system, with GENESIS, and we saw the gamut that it created and the system the way it was set up on a web base, we were able to retrieve colors from multiple different product lines and PMS being one of the most common and we were able to retrieve them fast.
And if it wasn't there, we could tweak it with the system and it would autocorrect and we'd be able to save it and retrieve it at another date. So the system made sense was definitely a step up from what I had before.
Walt Szczesny:
Probably the biggest surprise one, when we are doing our line on it, the efficiency of how fast we get color retrieval right for him. So if he had a mixing system, he could mix it right there on the spot for any size quantity he'd need.
Daryl Mowry:
My previous process, the color was too hard for me to pick up. I would have to wait days, if not weeks, to figure the process out. So with the GENESIS product I'm able to have a larger gamut and a lot of, a lot of other colors and the phasing system to be able to reach that color quicker and easier in house. If it's out of my realm again, I do have a local store that will help me out and they usually turn it around 24 hours.
GFX: With a two-thirds reduction in our time from start to stack-and-ship, we have an accelerant that truly accelerates
When I started using GA 1100 and Walt introduced it to us, it was in its beginning stages of getting developed and tested, and we were willing to give it a shot. We were in the middle of a project that had a really tight timeline and we wanted to be able to shoot the product and apply our vinyls right after the product was painted.
When Walt came to me and heard about the situation the solution would give it a try and it worked flawlessly.
GFX: New Online Tool: Retrieves accurate color formulas faster
We happened to have a customer after that- that was having a large outcoming of signs and the whole logo change and that was going to take a lot of time not only to build and install, but I didn't want to spend a whole lot of time waiting for paint to dry before I get my hands on it.
GFX: New Paint Technology: Reduces time from start to stack-and-ship
So I used the GA 1100 to that whole process and we were able to catch up a whole lot of time in the whole job. Bringing GENESIS into our product line and what we do here at Universal Sign Systems has really been a game changer for us.
We're able to get the product done quicker. We're hitting colors that we weren't able to hit before with the product line we were using and we're, in my opinion, keeping a lot of our paint products in-house. Metallics inside the signs, outside the signs, wherever the paint is applied and we've even incorporated a lot of Sherwin-Williams other product lines even graffiti proof. So this whole relationship with Sherwin-Williams and the GENESIS line has really helped Universal Sign.
