Sherwin-Williams Protective & Marine has launched FIRETEX® FX2007, expanding its award-winning range of intumescent passive fire protective coatings.

Steel Structure of High Rise Building

Bolton, UK (July  19, 2022) – Available across Europe and the UK, FX2007 is a solvent-based intumescent coating which offers optimised performance for up to 60 minutes of fire resistance on structural steel.

Our industry-leading FIRETEX family of coatings allows steel fabricators and applicators to coat structures to the highest standards, while creating a sense of safety for buildings in which thousands of people move about at any one time.

A proven performer designed for high value infrastructure projects, FX2007 is ideal for multi-use buildings, commercial real estate, office blocks and stadia, to be used both in new builds and across maintenance projects.

Applied by airless spray, the coating is suitable for both in-shop and on-site projects. Its fast drying times and competitive film thicknesses allow applicators to efficiently and quickly protect steel sections in as little as one coat.

Carl Burrell, Global Product Director – Fire, Sherwin-Williams Protective & Marine, said: “Our industry-leading FIRETEX family of coatings allows steel fabricators and applicators to coat structures to the highest standards, while creating a sense of safety for buildings in which thousands of people move about at any one time.

“Our improved technology makes FIRETEX FX2007 more economical and efficient than other products which offer 30- or 60-minute passive protection. Its lower thickness requirements result in reduced number of coats and therefore fewer labour hours, helping applicators save time and money compared to alternative products.”

FX2007 is approved with several primer types, and suitable for use in external environments when applied with approved topcoats. The product is supplied in 200 litre and 20 litre units.

The new coating system complements the Sherwin-Williams range of FIRETEX® intumescent coatings, including FX6002 which was awarded a Queen’s Award for Enterprise: Innovation 2021 thanks to its ultra-fast drying capabilities – making it possible for steelwork to be transported in a matter of hours, with less downtime, fewer bottlenecks and faster project completion.

Projects using fire protection coatings offered by Sherwin-Williams in EMEAI include London’s The Shard and the Leadenhall Building, known as The Cheesegrater; Azerbaijan’s Flame Towers; the UnipolSai tower in Milan; and the Y-Towers in Amsterdam.
