Reducing our carbon footprint

We don’t just want to make more sustainable products; we also want to change how we work - so that everything we do has less of an impact on the planet.

Through continuous improvements across all our operations, from the way we power our plants to our production processes and distribution pipeline, everything we do is up for closer scrutiny.

Environmental carbon footprint goals

To help us achieve the ambitious targets that we have set ourselves, our Sustainability Framework provides a working template for taking actions that make a lasting impact.

These are our initial goals:

Reducing our Scope 1 and Scope 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 30%

increasing renewable electricity icon

Increasing electricity from renewable sources by 50%

Increasing operational efficiency icon

Increasing operational efficiency by 20%

Reducing waste icon

Reducing waste disposal intensity by 25%

Carbon Footprint Reduction Roadmap

In the UK we’re activating our global sustainability ambitions at a very local level with a range of initiatives covering energy efficiency, renewable energy, powering our UK fleet, and making improvements to the carbon footprint of our Bolton-based operations.

Working towards a greener future for everyone

Ambitions without goals mean nothing. So we’re committed to being part of the  EU’s Green Deal for Europe to become carbon neutral by 2050. It’s a major challenge that will change the way all of us live, work and use energy.  But it’s worth it.

Here the focus is very much on increasing our electricity from renewable sources to 50% of total electricity usage by 2030.  To help us get there, we’re deploying a range of strategies including on-site renewable energy generation projects at selected company locations, securing Virtual Power Purchase Agreements (VPPAs) and Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs).

These new energy procurement strategies will play a key role in helping us secure new energy sources with a focus on renewable energy, rather than fossil fuel-generated solutions.
