[MUSIC PLAYING] SHERWIN-WILLIAMS
[NARRATOR] In this video, we're going to show you the proper application technique for a 3-stage white pearl using Sherwin Williams Ultra 7000 solvent refinish system. Let's start with the color check. Determine the correct color early in the repair process, preferably when the estimation is completed. Preparing a step down panel is necessary to determine the number of mid coat layers required to achieve the correct color match. The same spray gun should be used for the step down panel and the final repair. Attach three metal spray out cards to a stick. Over all three panels, apply one wet coat of sealer, then apply the groundcoat and let it flash off. Then apply a midcoat to all of the cards. Remove one of the cards and apply another coat of midcoat. Remove the second card and apply a third coat of midcoat. Each card should be numbered with the amount of midcoat. Finally, apply the Ultra system clearcoat over three quarters of each card. This allows you to see the color with and without clearcoat. This process will allow you to determine the proper amount of midcoat needed for the repair. Let's move on to surface preparation. We recommend cleaning the repair area with an appropriate Sherwin-Williams cleaner, then sanding with P400 to P800 grit paper. Remove all sanding debris with compressed air in a sanding vacuum and then re-clean the area with the appropriate Sherwin-Williams surface cleaner. Now the undercoat. We've selected the Ultra system P30 SpectraPrime primer surfacer/sealer, with S41 2K primer/sealer converter, US4 reducer and H38 hardener. P30 is a premium quality 2K urethane that delivers best in class gloss holdout resistance to film shrinkage and easy sanding. For this specific application, we've selected a gray shade. The groundcoat formula is available in the color retrieval software platform for Ultra 7000. Apply 2 to 3 medium coats of groundcoat, or until hiding is achieved. Next, apply the midcoat. The required number of coats was determined during the color check. Refer to your step down panel and apply the required number of medium coats. Allow each coat to flash to a dull uniform appearance. Now we are ready for clearcoat. We're using Ultra System 1100755 elegance clearcoat with US4 reducer, and UH80 hardener. This clearcoat is great for multi-panel and overall repair work. It also preferred by our customers because it's easy to spray and delivers extreme gloss. Thanks for watching and be sure to follow us on all of our social media channels for more tech tips.

He pours varying amounts of paint and gloss into measuring cups, mixing them.
Three sprayout cards are attached to a metal stick. They are white with a thin black line down the middle.
The man sprays them with the mixtures, covering up the line.
He angles them so that the light reflects off them.

The clear coat is measured out and sprayed on.
The car part is now a pearlescent white.
