3M™ Paper Disc 426U
3M Paper Disc 426U is made for use in high-production environments and ideal for white wood sanding, sealer and solid surface sanding, or whenever a fine finish is critical. Its open coat silicon carbide abrasive mineral and anti-load coating work together to minimize loading, promote a fine finish and extend abrasive life.
An indispensable performer, the 3M™ Paper Disc 426U comes in grades from 80 to 400 and works well on hard and soft woods as well as metal, clear coats, paints and ceramics. Coated with silicon carbide, it is fast cutting and delivers a smoother finish than an aluminum oxide disc. With a light, A-weight paper backing, 3M™ Paper Disc 426U will flex with the backup pad and hug surface contours to produce exceptional surface finishes.
A stearate coating helps prevent dust and abrasive matter from collecting in the grain of the abrasive (loading) and the surface of the workpiece. Sanding discs cut better and last longer when dust isn't loading the cutting surface of the abrasives. Loading occurs when wood or paint dust collects and clogs the face of the disc and the abrasive points, which can quickly make the disc ineffective. Open coat construction means the abrasive grains are spaced so that dust and debris can collect in the spaces rather than loading the disc.
The 3M™ Paper Disc 426U is well-suited for rotary and random orbital sander applications and is commonly used for low-pressure applications such as paint prep and woodworking applications. In comparison to other 3M abrasive discs using a random orbital sander, it produces the finest finish (fewest swirl marks) but had the shortest life.
