New Sherwin-Williams Coating Delivers Proven, Fast-Turnaround Performance

CLEVELAND, OHIO (September 12, 2017) – Sherwin-Williams Protective & Marine Coatings has introduced a new polyaspartic coating designed to enhance productivity for a wide array of protective coating applications. EnviroLastic 940 LV is a high-build coating offering enhanced throughput, direct-to-metal (DTM) application, and fast-drying characteristics for asset owners to enhance their productivity and reduce costs in the shop and field. The coating also offers proven performance characteristics for specifiers and provides an extended painting season, with application temperatures as low as 35°F.

The high film-build characteristics of EnviroLastic 940 LV deliver the required thickness and durability that was once only possible with an additional coating layer, allowing applicators to eliminate one layer in all applications. As a DTM coating, the product offers a single-coat application with long-term performance, durability and aesthetics that are comparable to a two-coat epoxy/urethane system. In addition, the versatile product may also be used as part of a two-coat or three-coat system.

Sherwin-Williams has tested EnviroLastic 940 LV extensively to confirm its performance characteristics in reduced-coat applications related to abrasion resistance, adhesion, impact resistance, flexibility, corrosion weathering, salt fog, and pencil hardness. For example, the product passes a ½" mandrel bend test, demonstrating significant flexibility. It also exhibits comparable, even slightly better, corrosion weathering results compared to a previous-generation product.

Further increasing productivity and lowering costs for asset owners, the coating’s advanced chemistry provides 3-hour dry-to-handle times. This fast-curing capability greatly reduces grit and dust pickup, while also accelerating shop and field applications by allowing crews to handle, transport and install coated assets sooner.

The high gloss and color-retention properties of EnviroLastic 940 LV enrich the overall appearance of assets, enhancing their aesthetics. In addition, the coating’s high corrosion-weathering resistance helps to extend asset life.

Ideal for both maintenance and new construction projects, EnviroLastic 940 LV can be used for onshore oil and gas assets, bridge and highway projects, production tanks, steel fabrication, other structural steel, pipes and commercial and architectural applications. In addition, the product’s less-than-250 g/L VOC (Volatile Organic Compounds) and HAPS-free (Hazardous Air Pollutants) formulation enables application in nearly any geography.
