In Sioux Falls, South Dakota. A transformative infrastructure project is reshaping the future of water treatment with a $215 million investment. The city launched its largest construction initiative to date, expanding and modernizing the regional water reclamation facility to meet the needs of a growing population.
This ambitious upgrade increases the plant's daily treatment capacity by 43%, rising from 21 to 30 million gallons. It's a strategic move to support nearly 300,000 residents projected by 2036, ensuring clean water, environmental protection and long term sustainability. The success of this project was built on collaboration.
The City of Sioux Falls partnered with McCarthy building companies MVP painting and Sherwin-Williams Protective and Marine to deliver a solution that would stand the test of time. Together, they specified and applied advanced protective coatings tailored to the facility's unique demands. From sludge troughs to piping.
Every surface was treated with precision. Robust three coat systems were used on each asset, providing long lasting protection against corrosion and chemical attack. Even during extreme summer heat, the teams worked seamlessly to maintain quality and performance. Recognized with the 2025 Sherwin-Williams Wastewater Impact Award.
The Sioux Falls Water Reclamation Facility stands as a model of innovation, partnership, and excellence in water infrastructure.
