Agricultural Equipment Dealer Showroom Floor Combines Finesse with Function
Sherwin-Williams Resuflor™ Deco Quartz BC23 System (formerly Ceramic Carpet 400) Applied at Minnesota Farm Equipment Dealership
SEMA Equipment in Grand Meadow, MN asked Sherwin-Williams to supply a flooring system for their showroom that combined attractive aesthetics and durability against the traffic of customers and heavy agricultural equipment.
SEMA Equipment, a large supplier of lawn and agricultural equipment, was set to open a new retail store in Grand Meadow, Minnesota in 2019. The showroom required a stylish aesthetic with the capability to handle thousands of pounds of heavy farm equipment such as tractors, mowers and excavators and. The Sherwin-Williams High Performance Flooring team worked with the owners and contractor to select a decorative industrial blended flooring system that checked all the boxes.
SEMA Equipment Showroom Flooring Solution
SEMA Equipment had previously used another manufacturer’s product, but contractor Concrete Treatments Inc. suggested partnering with Sherwin-Williams due to consistent product performance and excellent local technical service and customer support. To meet the challenge of blending budget, classy aesthetics and extreme durability, Sherwin-Williams and the contractor eventually selected a Resuflor Deco Quartz BC23 system. This LEED® v4-compliant system incorporates decorative colored quartz aggregates with high-solids epoxy resins and chemical-resistant grout and topcoats to form a protective surfacing system that is aesthetically pleasing and resistant to slips, wear, staining and chemicals.
To prepare the floor for installation, the substrate was first shotblasted at a concrete surface prep (CSP) level of 3-4. Because there were high moisture readings in the concrete, a primer of Sherwin-Williams Resuprime™ 3830 was laid down to help mitigate potential moisture issues due to the fast turnaround time required on this installation, as well as promote better adhesion of the quartz system. Next, a layer of Sherwin-Williams Resuflor 3561 resin was installed and decorative quartz granules were broadcast into it. The resin was squeegeed and cross rolled onto the substrate, then the quartz granules were spread in a grass seed-like fashion – upward and out – onto the wet resin. Broadcasting the quartz granules using this technique is critical to the overall appearance of a decorative quartz flooring system. This process was repeated and the floor allowed to cure for another 24 hours. Finally, Sherwin-Williams Resuflor 3746 grout coat and topcoat were applied to ensure an even, hard-wearing finish. All in all, the entire application process took around five days to complete.
The SEMA team and their customers were very pleased with the outcome of the showroom. After two years of withstanding heavy-duty equipment and foot traffic, the floor remains pristine and should continue to hold up for many years to come.
