The Challenge: Upgrading Flooring for a Michelin-Star Restaurant Kitchen While Maintaining Hygiene and Safety Standards

Refurbishing the kitchen for this world-famous dining destination required a flooring system that would deliver exceptional durability and hygiene performance while ensuring staff safety within a fast-paced kitchen environment. The renovation formed part of La Gavroche’s first major refurbishment in 18 years, creating the opportunity to modernise the kitchen with materials capable of meeting contemporary operational demands.

The project required close collaboration between Sherwin-Williams and Resintek Services Ltd, who worked together to supply and install the flooring system for the newly redesigned kitchen, which was custom designed by Eximius Projects. The client required a solution that could be installed efficiently within strict programme timelines while meeting detailed performance specifications.

The existing substrate consisted of approximately 100m² of concrete flooring. The replacement surface needed to provide a seamless, easy-to-clean and highly durable finish capable of withstanding frequent washdowns, food preparation spillages and constant foot traffic. Compliance with environmental and health and safety regulations was also a key project requirement.

The Solution: Heavy-Duty Polyurethane Screed Flooring Engineered for Commercial Kitchen Use

FasTop TG69 polyurethane floor screed was selected as the most suitable solution for the refurbishment project. The system is trowel-applied to create a seamless, heavy-duty flooring finish designed specifically for demanding commercial and food preparation environments.

The polyurethane screed provides exceptional durability, allowing the floor to withstand aggressive cleaning procedures, temperature fluctuations and impact from kitchen equipment. Its seamless construction eliminates joints and cracks that could harbour dirt or bacteria, supporting strict hygiene standards required within professional food preparation areas.

FasTop TG69 also provides reliable anti-slip performance, improving safety for chefs and kitchen staff working in busy and potentially hazardous environments where liquids, oils and food residues may be present. The system was installed in line with all relevant environmental and health and safety regulations, ensuring full compliance with modern commercial kitchen requirements.

The fast and efficient installation process helped the project remain aligned with the client’s refurbishment schedule while delivering a high-quality finish that complemented the kitchen’s redesigned layout.
