Designing Durable, Anti-Slip Flooring for Meat Processing Facilities
Food-Safe Polyurethane Flooring for Demanding Meat Production Environments
The Challenge: Creating a Heavy-Duty, Hygienic Floor for Intensive Meat Processing and Washdowns
The meat processing facility required a full flooring upgrade to meet the demanding conditions of a busy food production environment. The existing floor needed replacing with a tough, seamless system capable of withstanding constant production activity and rigorous daily cleaning routines.
A key requirement was resistance to frequent washdowns using power hoses and hot water, which placed significant stress on the floor surface. The client also specified that the new flooring had to be laid with a slight fall to facilitate water drainage and integrate seamlessly with the existing drainage channels within the concrete substrate.
In addition to durability and hygiene, safety was a major concern. The floor surface would often remain wet due to the facility’s cleaning regime and production processes, creating a high risk of slips. As a result, the new system had to provide excellent anti-slip performance to protect staff and maintain safe working conditions.
The client’s brief focused on achieving a long-term, cleanable flooring solution that would support food safety standards while minimising disruption to ongoing operations.
The Solution: Installing Polyurethane Screed Flooring Engineered for Industrial and Food Processing Environments
To meet the facility’s demanding requirements, FasTop™ TG69 was selected as the most suitable flooring system. This high-performance polyurethane screed is designed for heavy-duty industrial and food processing environments, offering a life expectancy of 10 years or more.
FasTop TG69 can be laid to falls and easily incorporates existing drainage channels, ensuring effective water management during washdowns. Its textured surface delivers proven anti-slip performance in both wet and dry conditions, as certified by the HRRL Pendulum Test for slip resistance. This helped create a safer working environment for staff throughout the production areas.
Food safety was another critical factor in the system’s selection. FasTop TG69 is certified as food-safe by Campden BRI and HACCP International, confirming its suitability for use in food production facilities. This certification allowed the flooring to be installed around and adjacent to live production areas in other parts of the factory, helping to keep costly shutdowns to a minimum.
The seamless nature of the polyurethane screed also supports hygiene by eliminating joints and dirt traps, making the floor easier to clean and maintain to food industry standards.
The Results: A Long-Lasting, Safe Flooring System for Meat Production
The installation of FasTop TG69 delivered a durable, hygienic and anti-slip flooring solution tailored to the needs of a busy meat processing facility. The project was completed on time and within budget, ensuring minimal disruption to operations.
The new floor now provides a safe working environment for production staff, even during intensive cleaning routines and wet conditions. Its seamless, food-safe surface supports strict hygiene requirements while offering long-term performance under heavy use.
With its proven durability, excellent slip resistance and food industry certifications, FasTop TG69 has given the facility a reliable flooring system that will continue to support efficient, safe meat production for many years to come.
