Desert Diamond Casino
Constructing Southern Arizona’s first Vegas-style casino, hotel and conference center amidst a vast desert biome would be a challenge for any design team. Thanks to specialized tech services by Logicalis, forward-thinking structural engineering by PK Associates, design expertise by HBG and high-quality coatings from Sherwin-Williams — this colossal project became a reality.
The Desert Diamond West Valley Casino, located in Glendale, Arizona, is only the second casino in the U.S. to earn Green Globes certification. This achievement was accomplished with sustainable materials, careful construction practices and a design that’s symbiotic with its desert surroundings. The exterior skeleton was cast with 2 million pounds of steel frame, pre-cast concrete and tilt-up concrete, and accented with natural stratified rock native to the desert habitat. The exterior is highlighted with warm copper hues using a custom Fluropon® finish from Sherwin-Williams Coil Coatings, adding to the natural synergy.
Thanks to design and sustainability insights drawn from the life and energy of the desert itself, the 1.2-million-square-foot casino is poised to be an architectural triumph for decades.
