Finciful Florida Facility Expresses Color, Character & Courage
Each year, 27,000 children in the United States are diagnosed with a life-threatening illness. There are many charity groups that strive to lessen the stress and sadness of this statistic, one of which is Give Kids The World Village, a non-profit resort spanning 79 acres in Kissimmee, Fla. Give Kids The World caters to deserving families by providing free weeklong vacations in the short term and courage that lasts well after kids leave. Much of this lasting positive impact can be credited to the whimsical design of the theme park. One building in particular, the Village’s Towne Hall, is truly a centerpiece that showcases the candy-coated colors of a world beyond imagination.
The Towne Hall building concept was envisioned by architecture firm C. T. Hsu & Associates and built by Wellbro Building Corp. The teams decided that they wanted to create a show-stopping structure that would wow and welcome guests as they entered the park. One of the ways they accomplished this goal was by adding a soaring clock tower high above the rest of the building that can be seen across the entirety of the resort property.

Attached to the playful green metal roof of the Towne Hall, the clock tower required materials that could be melded and shaped into a specific curved structure. Approximately 6,000 sq. ft. of Petersen Aluminum’s 18-in. Snap-Clad panels were utilized on the roof, and the clock tower was created using 1,200 sq. ft. of PAC-150 standing seam metal roof panels. Panels in both profiles are 24 gauge and were finished and fabricated on-site in Valspar’s Fluropon® coating in Patina Green.
Fluropon 70 percent PVDF architectural coating was chosen because it delivers exceptional protection against dirt and stains, and is designed to resist chalking and fading — just what the designers needed when dealing with such a colorful project. Along with its adhesion properties, Valspar’s Fluropon helped ensure their color selections would not only last, but also appear vibrant and bold when applied to the build.
Additionally, the coating is formulated to stand up to harsh weather conditions, including UV rays from the perennial Florida sun, eliminating another concern from this particular project site. Plus, the solar-reflective pigments contained in the coating offer durability that resists heat absorption and aids in structural cooling. The solar reflective coating helps to reduce overall energy consumption of the building and can help building owners attain sustainability goals.
Give Kids The World has served more than 140,000 families from all 50 states and 75 countries since opening in the 1980s. The Towne Hall building, finished in May 2015, contains a themed food court and entertainment room, in addition to administrative offices. While it serves a functional purpose on the grounds, the quirky and colorful structure actually offers much more — it creates lifelong memories for kids and families in need.
