GFX: Sherwin-Williams Packaging Coatings
[00:00:05] Over a billion metal food and beverage cans are produced every day and a coating is applied to the surface of each one for manufacturerability, product safety, decoration, and can integrity. For more than 100 years Sherwin-Williams Packaging Coatings has provided protective coatings for cans made possible by the capabilities at the Packaging global technical center in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania. Protecting products and brands begins before a consumer opens a can of soda replaces a can of vegetables in their shopping cart. It starts at the point of polymer development and formulation. Coatings for light metal packaging are customized based on substrate, application method, can manufacturing process, and their end use. We are consistently developing and testing the ultimate solutions for beverage and food cans, caps and closures, aerosols and specialty cans, tubes and monoblock cans, as well as paint cans, drums, and pails. As a global technology leader with dedicated people, labs, and equipment devoted exclusively to fulfilling customer packaging coding requirements, Sherwin-Williams packaging coatings has earned over 400 patents, keeping us at the forefront of innovation. At the Pittsburgh facility, we design and optimize polymers and coating solutions with the ability to customize coating properties such as corrosion resistance, flexibility, and hardness based on the distinct needs of our packaging customers. As we develop coatings, we rely on our regulatory and analytical experience including an onsite toxicologist to achieve regulatory compliance all over the world. Our analytical capabilities including LCMS, GCMS, and migration analysis allow us to characterize newly developed chemistries or address stringent migration requirements which are key to supporting our customers across the hundreds of different can types in packaged products. Using our onsite machinery and equipment, we are able to replicate our customers' application cure and fabrication processes giving us the ability to simulate the conditions our customers experience in their own facilities. This allows us to refine and tailor coatings to our customers operations and deliver a competitive edge. We use our pilot plant capabilities to scale up new formulations before go into commercial production. Together, these abilities support our first-run capabilities for successful customer operations with one of the largest technical service teams in the industry. We also offer exceptional onsite technical support. Once coatings are developed our technical service experts work side by side with our customers in their facilities to optimize application performance. Our customer support extends to assistance within the lab through our strategic problem solving, maintenance of business, and analytical services groups. These groups serve as in-house resources for customers looking for comprehensive product testing and problem solving. Whether it's product reformulation, color matching, migration analysis, in-plant support for product scale up, or customer training, we provide the services to meet customer needs. Our packaging customers and the brand owners with which they work can count on us to develop and deliver innovative custom coating solutions and provide the technical expertise and support they need. We pride ourselves in our customer relationships built on trust and confidence in our abilities. At the Packaging Global Technical Center, we are passionate about enabling the success of your package and brand.
