Sher-Crete™ and Resuflor Products Re-Instate a Smooth and Tough Industrial Floor in a UK Factory

Situation

A Yorkshire coatings factory needed to upgrade its former solvent store for modern manufacturing processes. This meant the old, uneven, and contaminated concrete floor was unsuitable for the new operation which was being set-up in the area, and required the floor to be up-graded to a level working surface, which would be tough and durable as a production zone to withstand heavy loading.

Specialists from Sherwin-Williams worked with the client and the contractor, Monarch Resin Floors, to ensure that the requirement for a long lasting seamless functional industrial floor finish was met with a sound specification and deliver a floor meeting the designated performance criteria, and within the allocated time frame for this project.

The Solution

The solution for this building involved several products from the Sherwin-Williams range of industrial floor coatings and screeds.  After thorough preparation of the concrete base, the specification called for primer coats of Resuflor WB and Resuprime MVT to establish a sound and clean substrate, two coats of Sher-Crete BU cementitious underlayment base screed, followed by Resuprime ST pure epoxy resin primer and Resuflor SLX self-levelling epoxy resin at around 3mm thickness. Finally, to achieve an anti-slip texture, a roller coat of Resuflor HB coloured high-build epoxy resin incorporating an aluminium oxide aggregate, was to be applied. 

Outcome

The recommended system delivered an outstandingly durable flooring substrate with a seamless finish creating a modern working surface to meet health and safety standards and enhance the efficient production in the building.  According to Andrew Dawes, MD of Monarch Resin Floors, “The Sher-Crete product from Sherwin-Williams performed very well, had excellent flow characteristics, and cured to give and even smooth finish”.
