Sherwin-Williams Protective & Marine earned the following 2021 JPCL Prestige Awards:
- Top People honorees demonstrate numerous qualities related to their impact on the protective and marine coatings industry, as well as their personal achievement, professional influence and contributions to the community. Carl Burrell, Global Product Director – Fire, Sherwin-Williams Protective & Marine, won the award for his leadership in the fire protection market, commitment to educating the industry about best fireproofing practices, contribution to critical industry standards and mentorship inside and outside the industry. Burrell is responsible for leading the development, testing and market strategy for the company’s full line of FIRETEX® FX intumescent coatings.
- Top Innovation winners include technologies or products that offer better performing solutions for existing industry challenges. FasTop™ Multi Systems from Sherwin-Williams High Performance Flooring won this award based on its performance, durability and ease of application. The tough, long-lasting polyurethane flooring solutions hold up against repeated wear, can be easily cleaned and disinfected, and are resistant to chemicals, abrasions, slips, heat, steam and moisture. Enhancing installation ease and aesthetics, the FasTop Multi Systems portfolio features new, finer aggregate blends that improve flow and leveling during application.
- The Top Product in the Coating for Steel category was voted on by JPCL readers, with Fluorokem® HS 100 from Sherwin-Williams Protective & Marine earning the distinction. This premium, two-component fluoropolymer urethane coating is ultradurable, meaning it extends maintenance and repainting life cycles, thus providing long-term cost benefits and enhanced uptime over the life of an asset. The coating provides exceptional color and gloss retention that significantly outperforms conventional urethanes, even under severe environmental exposures and/or extreme weather conditions. The coating is attractive and ideal for use on highly visible steel and concrete surfaces.
- Top Project awards recognize parties involved in notable industrial protective coatings projects completed in 2020 across various industries. The application of a durable protective coating on The Providence, a new 500-ton lift capacity floating dry dock for Biblia Marine Towing and Transportation, earned the project team the top award. The team included Biblia, shipbuilder and applicator Conrad Shipyard, engineering firm JMS Naval Architects and Sherwin-Williams Protective & Marine. The application of an edge-retentive, ultra-high solids epoxy amine coating system from Sherwin-Williams Protective & Marine is expected to triple Biblia’s maintenance intervals – to 15 to 20 years – for the new floating dry dock compared to the five to seven years the company realized when using a traditional polyamine-cured epoxy coating.
