Collaboration with Sherwin-Williams allows Woodtone to offer the best interior and exterior wood product options for their customers.

With forty-one years as a building materials supplier of siding, trim, and wood paneling products in Chilliwack, Canada, Woodtone has always been a family-run company backed by a culture of collaboration and positivity.

Woodtone is selective about who they work with, but they’re confident about their relationship with Sherwin-Williams.

FORMULATING COMPETITIVE SOLUTIONS

A close six-year partnership between Sherwin-Williams and Woodtone formed when the two companies began collaborating on the development of specialty products to expand Woodtone’s offerings of prefinished product solutions.

Woodtone and Sherwin-Williams collaborated to create solutions that could compete strongly across North America.

In June of 2018, Woodtone launched their ColorSELECT™ collection after transitioning to the BP Siding Select topcoat with the help of the Sherwin-Williams team. Utilizing the BP Siding Select waterborne coating, this palette of 20 solid colors for fiber cement or engineered wood profiles provides a 30-year no fade limited warranty – setting Woodtone apart from its competitors.

“Sherwin-Williams is a household name – everyone has faith in their capability,” Malcolmson said. “That really gives us the confidence to go to our customers and have their buy-in and trust in these products.”

ELEVATING CURRENT OFFERINGS

Woodtone seeks continual enhancements to their products to meet ever-increasing consumer needs. Most recently, the company rolled out new solutions for their Fineline wall and ceiling paneling profiles. Sherwin-Williams assisted with developing, testing, and getting into production a new low VOC one-coat semi-transparent for Woodtone’s interior and exterior soffit, wall, and ceiling paneling product line.

Ricci explained how Woodtone introduced a low VOC solvent stain company to Sherwin-Williams, who in turn used the solvents to create the newly launched stains for the Fineline paneling product line that utilizes square-edge patterns for penny gap profiles of knotty wood. 

“The reason we made the switch was the constant development and commitment from Sherwin-Williams, making sure that this product was elevated above our current offerings,” Malcolmson said.

The building materials supplier also devotes attention to creating products that fill gaps in the market. As demand for treated trim products increased, Woodtone committed to developing a solution specific to their business that would outperform competitive products. After 12 months of testing with Sherwin-Williams, the two companies engineered the brand IsoTek – the first step in their two-step coating processes for the RealTrim™ Treated product line.

As Woodtone continues to utilize cuttingedge technology and coatings offered by Sherwin-Williams, they keep a pulse on their market and familiarize themselves with products, technologies, and services that can improve customer experiences throughout their business.
