What are Rebar Coatings?
Concrete alone lacks high tensile strength. To enhance this, reinforcing bars, or rebar, are added, creating reinforced concrete. Rebar consists of cylindrical steel bars with ribs or indentations that improve the bond with the concrete and reduce slippage. Specialized coatings are applied to rebar to increase bond strength and improve corrosion resistance, thereby extending the lifespan of the reinforced concrete.

Raising the BAr with SHer-Bar Coatings
Sher-Bar coatings were engineered to deliver long-lasting performance. Extensive testing has been done to ensure this product line meets or surpasses the stringent specifications set forth by ASTM International. The addition of Sher-Bar TEC (Textured Epoxy Coating) to this portfolio raised the bar for rebar coatings even higher. This textured epoxy coating improves the bond strength with the concrete and provides an industry leading damage-resistant finish for rebar. Sher-Bar TEC was engineered to further extend the service life of steel reinforced concrete structures.
With improved bond strength, damage tolerance and corrosion resistance, Sher-Bar TEC reduces the severity of cracks within the concrete, thereby decreasing chloride penetration and the rate of deterioration within the structure. This combination enhances long-term structural performance while reducing the frequency of maintenance repair, downtime, and costs.
To ensure a monolithic fusion bonded epoxy coating, Sher-Bar Green and Sher-Bar TEC are applied sequentially and cured together to ensure resultant coating layers are chemically bonded together. This process:
- Prevents corrosion by creating a barrier, blocking rust-causing materials
- Protects from damage with enhanced durability and sustainability
- Preserves the bond between the rebar and concrete with a proprietary textured finish
