WHAT IS INTUMESCENT CELLULOSIC FIRE PROTECTION?
When commercial, industrial, and municipal buildings contain exposed steel components, they require the application of a proven fire protection system to prevent structural damage that could occur when exposed to fire. Intumescent coatings react in a fire by swelling or expanding. That chemical reaction absorbs energy and forms a carbon-based char, reducing the rate of heat transfer and insulating steel. This extends the time to reach critical failure temperature of the steel section, maintaining the structure for a set period of time.
