New Office Development Protected by FIRETEX® System
The impressive office development at 20 Farringdon Street London, situated on a prominent position and located just minutes from the new Crossrail and Thameslink and three London Underground stations, offers 8,000 sqm of Grade A accommodation over 11 column-free floors.
Working with the fabricator, Bourne Steel, structural engineering specialists, Watermans, and the main contractor, HB Reavis, fire protection experts from Sherwin-Williams assisted with all stages of the project and developed the specification needed to protect the 1,000 tonnes of steelwork. The building was required to be protected against corrosion for 20 years in C1-C3 environments, and have between 90 and 120 minutes passive fire protection.
The solution for this involved FIRETEX FX6000 (now FX6002) intumescent coating applied directly to the steelwork blasted to Sa2 1/2 standard, and top coated with Acrolon C137V2. This Certifire approved system can provide up to 120 hours protection against fire and is suitable for external environments up to C5 when tested under ETAG 18 Part2. The Acrolon acrylic urethane topcoat has excellent exterior gloss and colour retention, which will give the desired long term aesthetic finish to the exterior of the building.
Outcome
The recommended system should provide the desired durability and protection against both corrosion and fire as specified by the client, whilst keeping the building looking pristine.
